COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES

 

 

Awards and spent a few days and some late nights meeting rap, R&B and kuduro superstars from across Africa: names like Banky W, Fally Ipupa, Daddy Owen, Cabo Snoop and Radio & Weasel, from Angola to Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo and beyond, all huge stars in their own countries, selling truckloads of records despite rampant piracy and a rickety music industry. These guys are kind of the Jay Zs and Snoops of Africa, basically.

CREATIVE DIRECTION, CONCEPT, STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP and DESIGN. Campaign and Fundraiser for LILY SARAH GRACE, an organization which supports the arts in underfunded public elementary schools.

Over forty brilliant creatives from multiple disciplines were given a marker and asked to create a  line drawing. These drawings would become the crux of the campaign, COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES. They would be turned into tee shirts and made into a beautiful limited edition book of drawings called YOU CAN’T MEMORIZE THIS – a protest against on the rote and drill memorization method of teaching, Participating artists include: Lena Dunham, Tina Fey, Johnny Knoxville, Lionel Richie, Jack Black, Laura Dern, Whoopi Goldberg and over 35 others.

In addition to the drawings, LSG partnered with SHARPIE as well as with famed jewelery designer, Helen Ficalora to create a series of charms, inspired by an original drawing by Sarah Badger.

The campaign was launched with a gala fundraiser in NYC hosted by Natasha Lyonne with a special performance by Rufus Wainwright.

LSG was founded by Matthew Badger after his three girls, Lily (nine) and twins Sarah and Grace (seven) passed away in a tragic fire on Christmas Day, 2011.
